Build apps
AI builder and assistant
AI is optional in appTown: everything it does, you can do by hand. When you want it, it builds for you and answers questions.
#The AI builder
Every builder page has an AI builder chat. Describe what you need, for example "Track customers and their orders, with an order status". The AI adds and changes tables, fields, relationships, views and the menu, roles and security rules, automations and their saved tests, all in the draft. You watch them appear in the builder and the preview, then publish when you're happy.
- Each change it makes is saved like yours, marked "AI:" in the history, so you can undo any of them.
- Answers appear as they are written.
- It reads the app's description (in Settings) with every request, so a clear description gives better results.
#Models
When you start a chat, pick a model: each AI provider offers a fast, a balanced and a deep model. Fast is cheapest; deep thinks hardest. A chat keeps its model; start a new chat to switch.
#The in-app assistant
Under Build → Views you can turn on an AI assistant for desktop, mobile or both. It is always the last item in the app's menu. People using the app ask it questions about the app and its records; it sees only what that person may see.
#AI in automations
Automations can ask AI and save the answer, or fill fields from a block of text (an email, a note). These use the billing owner's credits.
#Credits
AI use costs credits: each request costs what the AI provider charges for it, turned into credits.
- Building is paid by the app's billing owner.
- Each person pays for their own assistant chats.
- Every plan gets credits each month. See Settings → AI credits for your balance and history, and the app's Settings for its use this month. When credits run out, AI stops until next month (or a plan with more); everything else keeps working.
