Way in Who it acts as Use it for Docs
REST API + API key you, with exactly your permissions your code, scripts, other services reading and writing records REST API
Automation API you (the API key's user) "do this" endpoints you build as automations Run automations by API
MCP + API key you AI assistants and agents MCP
Incoming webhook the automation (no account needed) services that can only call a URL Webhooks

#What the API can and can't do

The API reads and writes records and starts automations. It never creates or changes apps, tables, fields, views or automations: do that in the builder (by hand or with the AI builder). It sees only published apps and real data, never the builder's draft or test data.

#Start in three steps

  1. Create an API key in Settings → API keys.
  2. Check it: curl https://apptown.app/api/v1/me -H "Authorization: Bearer at_…".
  3. Find your app's ID in its address (/a/{app}) or its Settings → API, and list some records.
